Care Tips for Leather Goods
There are a few things to keep in mind when caring for your leather goods.
First, although most of our leather products have a splash resistant finish, they are not water proof.
If cleaning is necessary, remove any items, such as knives from leather sheaths or Mason Jars from Mug Sleeves. Then use a warm damp rag to gently clean the leather surface.
Avoid scrubbing or hard pressure as this could damage the finish or put grooves into your leather. Do not use any cleaning solvents or soaps as this could permanently color or damage the finish.
Your item will naturally darken and patina over time, giving it the classic rich look of used leather.
Do’s and Don’ts of Leather Care
WATER
Although some of our products are used for holding beverages, such as Mason Jar Mugs or Coozies you must always remove them before washing your jars or bottles. When soaked with water, leather becomes soft and pliable. This can lead to stretching or a damaged finish.
SUN
Leather comes from the skin of an animal and will ‘get a tan’ if left in the direct sun. This is not necessarily a bad thing. Some people like the effect of sun tanned leather, but if you want to preserve the original color don’t leave it in direct sun too long.
HEAT
DO NOT MICROWAVE LEATHER!!!!
Leather is not microwave safe so please remove your sleeve from the Mason Jar before reheating hot beverages. If your sleeve has metal rivets attached to the handle it could damage your microwave and end badly.
Enjoy your purchase!!
Leather can last for years and years if properly cared for. It takes on a rugged patina and shows its age beautifully. We here at Everglades Forge hope to see your posts years from now with pictures of your items in use. Thank you very much.
